The Chief's Corner
In the northern hemisphere, the longest day of the year (near June 22) is when the Sun is farthest north. In the southern hemisphere, winter and summer solstices are exchanged. The summer solstice marks the first day of the season of summer. The declination of the Sun on the (northern) summer solstice is known as the tropic of cancer (23° 27'). The summer solstice is the longest day of the year, respectively, in the sense that the length of time elapsed between sunrise and sunset on this day is a maximum for the year. With summer almost here, its that time of year when we all have "fun in the sun". I have included in this article a flyer that highlights the possible dangers during the summer season. Please take the time review the flyer with your family, plan for a healthy, safe and playful summer season. No matter what your plans are for the summer season it is always important to be prepared and knowledgeable of the dangers that could an may occur.
